Our Story

The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective is a non-profit organization based in Baltimore, MD. This collective, formed in 2019, comprises a multifaceted group of BIPOC with diverse backgrounds in healthcare, education, parenthood, administration, and public service. Our mission is to facilitate and maintain safe and holistic perinatal, birth, and postpartum support to birthing people, as well as their families, in an effort to prevent and navigate traumatic and dangerous birth experiences caused by preventable negligence and/or maltreatment. Our Doula Collective understands that birth is a sacred experience and should therefore be honored as such. This collective is committed to positively impacting Black maternal and infant health within the Baltimore Metro-Region by empowering birthing families through advocacy and individualized support. With the Baltimore Metropolitan Region having a higher incidence of lower income families, with limited access to equitable quality care, The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective has seen these health disparities as a call to action. To serve as a resource, our collective provides free and low-cost support services to those in need. These services include continuous labor/birth support, childbirth education, lactation support, trauma-informed care, newborn care, and youth and life skills. The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective works with community-based organizations, with similar missions, to combat maternal and infant mortality, by centering human rights and reproductive justice. Birthing families deserve to be well-informed, validated and supported through pregnancy and the postpartum period, and to have a say in the manner in which they birth. The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective will strive to ensure that birthing families have the tools they need to have humanized, safe, and successful birthing experiences.
